Grand falls is located just up river from the Dead River rafting put in. A horseshoe shaped falls with an impressive width of 120 feet and a drop of 40 feet, make this falls a powerful and breathtaking sight. A overlook of the Dead River makes this falls very photogenic. Upstream from the falls is a hut part of the Maine Huts and Trails System, a 180 mile, 12 hut system currently in development. Learn more atwww.mainehuts.org Grand falls is also located along Maine’s ITS 89 snowmobile trail making it a great stop in the winter months.
DIRECTIONS: From Maine Lakeside Cabins turn left onto route 201 travel 11.8 miles, turn left onto Lower Enchanted Road following for 4.7 miles, turn left at split following Lower Enchanted road for 4.2 miles, turn left continuing on Lower Enchanted road for 4.3 miles, here you will find a large clearing and a small kiosk building, pass the kiosk and in a short distance you will reach the dead river where you can park your vehicle. Cross the metal bridge over a stream and follow the path along the banks of the Dead River, in a few hundred yards you will be overlooking Grand Falls.
This falls said to be the tallest continuous falls in Maine, is a beautiful spectacle in all four seasons. Fed by Moxie Stream the water takes a few small drops before plummeting some 90 feet into the gorge. An easy walk from the large parking area makes this a largely visited site, complete with stairs to help mobility around the falls and several viewing platforms great for pictures.
DIRECTIONS: From Maine Lakeside Cabins turn left onto route 201 continue 8.7 miles to Lake Moxie Road on right, from there it’s a short 2.1 miles to the parking area on left.
Houston Brook falls,
Houston Brook falls is and easy accessible, 40 foot cascading waterfall ending in Wyman Lake. Falls are a ten minute walk from the road on a well maintained trail. This falls also offers some great swimming holes, but use caution the rocks can become slippery from the mist.
DIRECTIONS: From Maine Lakeside Cabins turn right onto route 201, head 14.8 miles to the town of Bingham turning right onto route 16 west crossing the Kennebec River. After crossing the Kennebec river turn right onto Pleasant Ridge Road follow for 3.5 miles to the transfer station on the right. Park to the left of the fencing after you see the Houston Falls sign. Trail is a 5-10 minute walk from road.
